  • Epicentre of COVID-19 pandemic, China to host Asian Youth Games in 2021

    The Chinese city of Wuhan was the epicentre of the pandemic that is still sweeping across the world with Western Europe and USA being the worst hit currently. The OCA has decided to hold the Asian Youth Games from November 20 to 28. The host city was decided by the OCA in 2019 but the dates of the multi-sporting event was announced on Wednesday.

  • Wimbledon cancelled for first time since WWII

    Wimbledon was due to run for two weeks from June 29, with Novak Djokovic and Simona Halep set to defend their singles titles. But tournament chiefs bowed to the inevitable on Wednesday, saying in a statement that they had made the decision with "great regret". All England Club chairman Ian Hewitt said the decision had not been taken lightly.

  • No decision on cancelling IPL yet; BCCI mulls a few options

    “Different scenarios are being worked upon, but there is nothing to talk as of now. We are in a wait and catch mode,” said a BCCI official on condition of anonymity. The board is hopeful of a window later this year. Calls to BCCI president Sourav Ganguly did not elicit any response till press time.

    Last week, the IOC and Japanese organizers postponed the Olympics until 2021 because of the coronavirus pandemic. This year's games were scheduled to open on July 24 and close on Aug. 9. But the near exact one-year delay will see the rescheduled closing ceremony on Aug. 8.
